| Ensemble 212 2007-2008 Young Artist Competition for Piano Congratulations
to Angie Zhang, winner of the 2008 Young Artist Competition for Piano.Angie Enqi Zhang, 12, began studying the piano at age four. She moved from Portland, Oregon to New Jersey and joined in the Juilliard Pre-college in 2007 and studies with Julian Martin. At age ten, Angie performed Mozart Concerto KV453 with Orchestra at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon under Niel DePonte as a winner of the Young Artists Concerto Competition --- performing again at KBPS Mother's Day Concert in May (Young Artists Debut! Recital Program). KBPS Classical 89.9 interviewed Angie in April. She also performed in "Music in Context - The Nature of Prodigy" (the program by Oregon Symphony conductor Carlos Kalmar). Angie performed as the first piano of "Carnival of Animals" by Saint-Saens with Columbia Symphony under Huw Edwards. She had her piano solo recital debut when she was ten. She was selected to record in "Young Artists Debut!" Recital Showcase CD as one of the two pianists. Angie has been the winners of OMTA (Oregon Music Teacher Association) sponsored Classical Festival, Romantic Festival and Baroque Festival from the age 6. She was also the winner of Trula Whelan Concerto Competition in 2003, 2005 and 2007. She was the winner of OMTA Tom O'Brian scholarship competition in 2007. Angie has attended Portland State University String Festivals in 2005 and 2006 and played chamber music. She has been selected and had public master classes during Piano International Festival Northwest for the past three summers. In 2006, Angie was awarded "Outstanding Achievement in the Performing Arts by an Elementary Student" by Beaverton Arts Commission of Oregon. Prior to studying in the Juilliard, Angie studied with Dorothy Fahlman in Portland. She has had master class sessions with Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky, Leon Fleisher, Paul Roberts, Guangren Zhou, Janet Guggenheim, Davide Cabassi. Angie also studies cello and was the member of the Conservatory Orchestra of the Portland Youth Philharmonic. She was the winner of the Oregon Cello Society Scholarship Competition in 2005. Angie is a President Honor Roll student at the Thomas Grover Middle School in West Windsor, New Jersey. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, swimming and running. |
