Ensemble 212
Young Artist Competition series


The Young Artist Competition series was initiated in 2006 as an integral part of Ensemble 212's dedication to providing performance opportunities for talented young musicians from the greater metropolitan New York area. Each season, Ensemble 212 rotates the age and categories of vocalists and instrumentalists for each competition. Ensemble 212 is pleased to announce the following categories for the 2008–09 Young Artist Competition series. This season will feature:

Voice (Bass-Baritone)
age 20 to 40
Mozart Concert arias Un bacio di mano K. 541 & Per questa bella mano K. 612.
Winner to perform September 20, 2008

Composition
age 18 to 30
A new work for 9 instruments.
New work to be performed January 20, 2009

Cello
age 18 & under
Tchaikovsky (arr. Fitzenhagen) Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33.
Winner to perform on April 19, 2009

Piano
age 18 & under
Schumann Introduction and Allegro, Op. 92.
Winner to perform on April 19, 2009

The applicants will submit CDs as a preliminary round (scores for the composition competition) and perform live for the final round. The winners will perform with Ensemble 212 during the 2008-09 season.
