Winner of the Leonard Rose scholarship from the Juilliard School,
cellist Victoria Bass is quickly emerging as an exciting young
artist.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review agrees saying, "Bass is a remarkable
young talent who plays contemporary music with much tonal beauty
and
expressive assurance." Other critics have furthered this sentiment
saying, "She played as if her heart would break" (LiveMusic-Minnesota
Orchestra Magazine), "(Bass) delivered a fierce level of passion" (The
Post and Courier), and calling her "Astonishingly talented" (San
Antonio Express-News). As a soloist Victoria has been featured
by
Bargemusic, The Stone, the Society for Composers, Inc., the Foundation
for Modern Music, the Music in Time series at Spoleto Festival
USA,
the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, the 180 Maiden Lane series,
and on
the Hatch series at Jennifer Mueller/The Works. In 2007 she gave
the
Texas and Maine premieres of the Berio Sequenza XIV. This season
includes solo appearances with the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra
and
the Millenium Chamber Players, on the VIM:Tribeca series and the
Louisiana State University Contemporary Music Festival, and a chamber
music performance presented by the New York Art Ensemble.
From 2004-2007 Victoria was a member of the Pittsburgh New Music
Ensemble, a group with who she appeared in both the US and Canada,
and
performed a dozen commissioned world premieres. She appears with
them
on a recording available on Amazon.com and itunes. Earlier this
year
Victoria appeared as an alumnus of the Lucerne Festival Academy
in an
ensemble performance conducted by Pierre Boulez. This program will
be
repeated at the Lucerne Festival (Switzerland) this summer. Victoria
has also performed on the Klangspuren Schwaz festival (Austria),
and
with the East Coast Composers Ensemble, Future In REverse (FIRE), the
Latin American composers consortium AltaVoz, and the Axiom Ensemble.
Additionally her chamber music performances have been presented
by the
Neon Festival, the American Composer's Forum, New Music @ the Chelsea
Art Museum, the Greenwich Music Festival, and Syzygy: New Music
at Rice.
Victoria is currently a student of Darrett Adkins at The Juilliard
School where she is pursuing a Master's of Music degree. She received
her Bachelor's degree (cum laude) from Rice University where she
studied with Norman Fischer. Victoria is also an alumnus of the
Interlochen Arts Academy. |
