Kristina Hendricks-Giles, Viola
Kristina Giles née Hendricks) is equally at home as a recitalist, chamber player, and orchestral musician. Before moving to New York City to begin her doctoral work in Viola Performance at SUNY Stony Brook in 2008, she performed in the Dallas Opera, Kansas City Symphony, and with members of the Metropolitan Opera, Dallas Symphony, and New York Philharmonic. She currently plays with Ensemble 212, the Arcos Chamber orchestra, Ensemble Du Monde, and Symphony in C, and has appeared as a soloist with the Hudson Symphony.
Ms. Giles’ performance experience ranges from period Baroque to contemporary classical. She has collaborated with Jeanette Sorrell and David Finckle, among many others, and performed for Oliver Knussen, Harrison Birtwistle, and Gunther Schuller on their works. Kristina received her Bachelor’s degree from Oberlin Conservatory with Peter Slowik, and her Master’s from Rice University with James Dunham. She currently studies with Katherine Murdock and Daniel Panner at SUNY Stony Brook. Ms. Giles’ previous summer engagements include the Aspen Music Festival as an Orchestral Fellow, and the chamber festivals Kneisel Hall and Sarasota Music Festival.
Kristina has been a judge for Young Artist competitions at the Bloomingdale School of Music and Ensemble 212. She joined the faculty of the Performing Arts Institute of Wyoming Seminary in July of 2010, and Larchmont Music Academy in 2009. She has been a core member of Ensemble 212 since 2010.
