Jen Herman, Viola
Violist Jen Herman has toured in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. She has performed with the Flint, Lansing, Midland, Spoleto Festival USA, Princeton, and Glens Falls Symphony Orchestras, and is the principal violist of Chelsea Opera and the Medomak Conductor's Retreat. As a chamber musician, Ms. Herman has performed in venues such as Carnegie’s Weill Hall, Detroit’s Orchestra Hall, MoMA’s sculpture garden, and is a founding member of the contemporary ensemble Lunatics at Large. Ms. Herman was the winner of the Mannes College of Music Low String Concerto Competition in 2006 and the University of Michigan Concerto Competition (String Division) in 2009. She received her BM from Mannes College The New School for Music, continued studies at The Juilliard School, and earned her MM from the the University of Michigan. A passionate teacher, she maintains a private studio in New York City, is a teaching artist currently working with nursery school children, and is on faculty at The Harmony Program, an El Sistema inspired organization. Ms. Herman has been performing with Ensemble 212 since 2007 and a core member since 2011.
